Welcome to the 2013 Ector County Livestock Show!  It's going to be the best year ever.  We have the biggest rabbit show in years along with excellent goat, lamb, swine, & beef proejcts!  Check in with the Ector County Extension Office for any questions you might have!  Below is the schedule.

Permian Basin 4-H Modeling Show - September 15th

 
District 6 4-H has coordinated with the Permian Basin Fair and Exposition Board to host the Permian Basin Fair 4-H Modeling Contest.  This contest gives 4-H'ers great exposure to the public and experience in modeling.  Additionally there is $1000 in scholarship money for qualifying 4-H'ers who will be seniors in high school (2012-2013).  Those applying must have participated for at least 2 years in the Permian Basin Fair Modeling Contest beginning their freshman year of High School. 
 
Each county may send as many contestants as they wish for all age divisions. Judging by the Permian Basin Fair is based soley on modeling using the following criteria with each receiving a score from one to four: overall appearance, on stage poise / self esteem, personal presentation, choice of style
 
Awards will be given in each of the age categories by the Permian Basin Fair Creative Arts Division.
 
Also available to 4-H modeling participants, is an "Extreme Makeover Workshop".  This event includes hair, makeup, and modeling tips and assistance from Permian Basin experts.  This is an optional opportunity but registration is required to ensure adequate resources are available.

Texas 4-H Roundup - June 11-14th, Texas Tech University


There is still time to register for Texas 4-H Roundup! This is the first year in the history of 4-H that State Roundup will be in Lubbock at the Texas Tech campus! The dates are June 11-14th. If you would like to find out more, please follow this link:

Ector 4-H has many members attending this event, it's going to be a great time with friends and fun!  Join us - it's not too late!!

2012 is starting with a bang with the Ector County Stock Show!  Here are a few reminders regarding this event: 





1.      Date – January 12-14, 2012
-        Weigh-in of steers, swine, lambs, & goats – Friday, January 13th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
-        Weigh-in of rabbits – Friday, January 13th from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
-        Rabbit Show - Friday, January 13th @ 7:00 p.m.
-        Swine Show – Saturday, January 14th @ 9:00 a.m., followed by Lambs, Goats, Heifers, Steers.
-        Barn E will be open for livestock to move in on Thursday and Friday.  Livestock must be in barn before weigh-in starts.

2.      Set-up – Tuesday, January 10th from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  Please come to help when you can.  Set-up will count toward your ECLA required number of meetings.

Ector County Photography Show
The Ector County Photography Show will be held the last week of February.  More information to come, but please begin to make decisions on what photos you would like to enter!  Clovers are eligible to enter this contest!





Ector County Clothing & Textile Contest
Tentatively, the Ector County Clothing & Textile contest is scheduled for April 10th.  I hope you have a textile in mind to make for this year’s contest!  Entries can include jewelry, blankets, quilts, and all types of crafts (Clovers may also enter this contest). For those interested in the fashion show category (buying or construction), I would like to know what category you are entering by February 15th.  This gives us time to work on the paperwork for your entry!  For more information, or questions, please email or give me a call (sfclawson@ag.tamu.edu or 432-498-4071).   

Fashion StoryBoard
Fashion Storyboard is another project related to the clothing and textile project.  It involves designing a garment (or textile) from fabric around a given theme.  It is very similar to a fashion design project.  I will be holding an information meeting regarding this project, Tuesday, Febraury 7th at 4:30.  If you are interested in attending, please RSVP by February 1st


Ector 4-H Achievement Banquet

This year's Achievement Banquet is approaching quickly!  Ector 4-H will honor all members who have completed a 4-H project!  Please join us for a night of fun and recognition.  This years theme is "4-H Worldwide Adventures" and Rose BBQ is catering the meal.  Tickets will be $10 and can be purchased at the Ector County Extension Office beginning Monday, July 17th - August 4th.  The meal will begin at 6:30 with award presentations beginning at 7:00.  Dont miss a time of celebrating the accomplishments of Ector 4-H! 

Brisket Sales!
Support Ector 4-H by purchasing a brisket to complete your 4th of July menu!  Briskets are $45 and prepared by the Chuckwagon Gang!  Last day to order is Thursday (6/30) by noon!  Contact the Ector Extension office for more information. 


2011 Leadership Lab
Leadership Lab will be June 20 – 23, 2011 at the Texas 4-H Conference Center on Lake Brownwood.
The theme this year is “Welcome to the Great Outdoors” and cost is $185 per 4-H member and $100 per adult chaperone.  Registration will open on 4-H Connect May 3 – June 9, 2011.

The Texas 4-H & Youth Development Program is pleased to offer the first-ever statewide 4-H Volunteer Conference.  The "iVolunteer: From Impression to Impact" Conference is scheduled to be held in San Antonio, July 29-31, 2011.  Join us for a high energy, dynamic and engaging conference that will address the emerging issues of youth development and the Texas 4-H Program.  The two and one-half-day conference will be filled with quality educational workshops and general sessions.  Registration is now open on 4-H CONNECT.

MASH Camp

Registration for MASH Camp is now open!  MASH Camp will be held June 28-30 at Texas A&M University in College Station, offering youth a hands-on learning experience that allows them to learn about the medical, safety and health fields. During the three-day, two-night camp, youth will participate in activities with the Texas A&M Athletic Department, Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine, College of Medicine and Health Science Center to explore and discover career opportunities. Membership in the 4-H Program is not a requirement to participate in the camp.  More information can be found online at Texas 4-H Healthy Lifestyles website.

JUNIOR FED BEEF CAREER AND LEADERSHIP PROGRAM

The Junior Fed Beef Career and Leadership Program is open to any incoming High School Juniors or Seniors who have an interest in the pursuing a career in feedyard management and the fed beef industry.  The tour is designed to educate participants in feedyard operations and career opportunities in the fed beef industry.   This event is sponsored by Texas Cattle Feeders Association, Texas AgriLife Extension Service and West Texas A&M University.  The dates of the 2011 program is June 27-29 in the Amarillo/Canyon area. TEXAS A&M UNIVERSITY HORSE JUDING CAMP

Texas A&M is hosting two horse judging camps this summer on June 22-24 & June 6-8, 2011.  These camps are for youth 12-18 years of age.  Instruction on halter classes, performance classes and oral reason presentation is available.  For more information, contact Dr. Clay Cavinder or access the material online.

TEXAS TECH FASHION CAMP

During Fashion Camp, students explore the world of fashion by creating their own brand, logo, and fashion folio as well as learning about famous fashion designers, facials, sewing, and participating in numerous activities that enhance their individual style and sense of creativity. Fashion Camp 2011 is a great opportunity for students with any interest in fashion, pop culture, and art.  The beginner camp concludes with a fashion show on Friday afternoon.  The advanced camp concludes with students competing in a Project Runway competition on Thursday afternoon.  After a week full of fashion design activities, the students will present their skills through a fashion show and reception for their friends and family. The ages are 10-18.  Cost is $425 for the beginner camp and $600 for the advanced camp per person. The cost includes meals, room and board, all supplies and a camp T-shirt. Additional materials and information will be sent individually upon receipt of the application and camp fee. The application and information can be found on our

TEXAS TECH CHEF CAMP

During Chef Camp each camper will enhance their knowledge of culinary arts. The lessons and activities range from plating and presentation to learning about foods from around the world.  Campers explore the world of culinary arts and learn many aspects of their own personal cooking style.  Everyday is beneficial, creative, and tons of fun.  On Thursday evening, students compete in an Iron Chef competition.  After a week full of culinary arts activities, the students will present their skills through a reception for their friends and family.  The ages are 13 and above.  The cost is $600 per person, which includes meals, room and board, all supplies, a camp t-shirt, chef coat, and apron.  The application and information can be found on our

CONNORS STATE LIVESTOCK JUDGING CAMP

WILDLIFE CONSERVATION CAMP

The Texas Chapter of The Wildlife Society invites you to the best week of your summer... July 17-23, 2011at the Welder Wildlife Refuge near Sinton, Texas. Applicants must be entering their sophomore, junior, or senior year of high school or their freshman year of college in the fall of 2011. Download an application from theTexas Chapter's website. Like Dogs?

Beginner Recordbook Training

A beginner record book training will be held Tuesday, April 19th at 6:00 p.m. at the Ector County Annex Building.  The training will cover the basics of putting together a recorbook.  Please join us to see what the benefits of a record book can be to your 4-H member!

 

2011 D6 4-H Roundup April 30

The District 6 4-H Roundup Contest to be held on April 30, 2011 include the following:
Educational Presentations, Public Speaking, Entomology Identification, Share-the-Fun, Textiles Show, Fashion Show, Fashion Storyboard, Discover Scientific Method Research Poster Contest and Photography.

All April 30th Contests will be held at Garden City High School located at 240 West Bearkat Avenue, Garden City, Texas.

STATE PHOTOGRAPHY:  SENIORS ONLY

Interested seniors must submit their pictures on Monday, April 4th, by 5:00 p.m. to the Ector County Extension Office.  The Ector County Senior State Qualifying Contest will take place April 7th at the Ector County Annex Building.
ECTOR COUNTY FASHION SHOW REMINDER:
Entry materials for the Ector County Textile Contest must be in the Ector County Extension Office by Monday, April 4th.  The entry fee is $1.00 per textile entry.  Entries for the Ector County Fashion Show must be in by March 31, 2011, by 5:00 p.m. to the Ector County Extension Office.  Entries for the fashion show are $5.00 per entry.
TEXTILE CONTEST REMINDER:
The Textiles Contest Reception will be held Monday, April 11th, from 4:30 – 7:00 p.m.  The Fashion Show participants will model their garments on April 5th, at Grace Christian Fellowship Church located at 3450 Billy Hext Road, Odessa
