Betty's Bobbin Box

Today was absoutely fun!  Betty's Bobbin Box in Odessa, TX welcomed our Ector & Andrews County 4-H members into their store!  Betty's is a wonderful little place to get lost in fabric - especially if you have a tendency to enjoy quilting.  Here is their web address just in case you want to check it out //www.bettysbobbinbox.com/.

Our clothing members learned some basic sewing skills and took home a project embroidered with their name.  The staff at Betty's even supplied pizza to top off the project meeting.  WOW!  We will definitely be shopping at Betty's for all of our sewing and crafting needs!  Thank you to Kamie, Billie, and Elaine for making us feel right at home.  Pictures will be posted soon!

P.S.  Betty's Bobbin Box also does embrodiery work - if you will scroll down a little further you can see our food challenge team's aprons - which were done with their handy work!

Quilt Challenge

Ector County 4-H was pleased to have a quilt entry in this year's Texas 4-H Roundup Quilt Challenge Contest!  Katie and Ryanne did a fabulous job putting their ideas together and coming up with this quilt!  In the quilt challenge, each team is given a challenge fabric that must be incorporated into the quilt design.  Quilts may have any design or theme but must incorporate the use of some of the challenge fabric in combination with other fabrics determined by the quilters!  Thank you to Kellye Lewis for leading this project.  If you would like to particpate in next year's quilt challenge, send us an email sfclawson@ag.tamu.edu or give us a call!

2011 Ector 4-H Clothing and Textile Show

What a fun event this was for Ector 4-H!  I believe we ended up with 35 entries!  Many talented young men and women entered their projects - how impressive to see their work!  Ryanne Lewis won "Best of Show" with her quilted bag.  Ms. Lewis also won "Honorable Mention Best of Show" for her roll up jewlery bag as well!  Congratulations!

Three storyboards were entered by: Ryanne Lewis, Zoe Johnson, and Naaman Johnson.  This was a new category - revised from a former project "fashion design".  They did an excellent job capturing their designs on the storyboards.

Ector County 4-H'ers learned how to put together a "fashion story board" in their clothing and textile project this year.

In the fashion show, Ector had four entries!
Katie Garner - 1st place, Buying Casual, Intermediate
Ryanne Lewis - 1st place, Buying Dressy, Intermediate
Zoe Johnson - 1st place, Recycled - Embellished, Intermediate
Abbey Callender - 1st place, Buying Dressy, Junior

Two of our Clover Kids entered their projects, Regan Armstrong and Dylan Hampton.  Regan entered an apron she made from recycling a towel - so creative!  Dylan entered a pillow case he decorated with his hand prints... cute stuff!  They were proud of their 1st place ribbons.

Dylan Hampton was recognized for his first place textile project.
